Ensimmäinen viikko Floridassa - First Week in Florida

Ensimmäinen viikko täällä alkaa olla takana, kiireitä on pidellyt ja paljon uutta nähtävää ja koettavaa ollut. Töissä on aika mennyt super nopeasti, koska kaikki asiat ovat niin uusia ja työmäärä on tällä hetkellä suurehko kasaantuneiden tehtävien vuoksi ja koska täällä alkaa juuri sesonki. Lisäksi tietysti haluan tarkistaa asioiden päiväntasalla olemisen ja selkeyttää asiat itselleni sopiviksi, järjestellä työni omannäköisekseni.

Since I am going to post some photos here, I thought the best way of writing both in Finnish and English is to write each chapter with both languages. Sorry for the inconvenience in reading.

My first week here starts to be behind, I have been quite busy with all the new stuff. At work the time has went by pretty fast, because all the things are still new to me and because the work load is quite high for there hasn't been a trainee here for almost a month before I arrived. Also, the season when Finns arrive here for winter has just started, which makes consulate work busier. 

Maanantaina meillä oli tosiaan FACCn johtokunnan kokous ja tiistaina menimme töiden jälkeen kaupungintalon pihalla olevaan tapahtumaan mainostamaan työnantajani vakuutusfirmaa. Siellä ei kuitenkaan mennyt pitkään, koska kävijämäärä ei ollut suuri.

On Monday we had the FACC board meeting, and on Tuesday we went to promote my employers insurance company to the event at the City Hall yard. That however did not took long, because of the small amount of guests.

Kävin myös avaamassa pankkitilin paikallisessa Wells Fago - pankissa, jossa on töissä suomalainen Sinikka, hän hoitaa monien suomalaisten raha-asioita täällä. Kukaan ei tunnu tietävän Suomalaisten tarkkaa määrää täällä, johtuen ehkä siitäkin että monet viettävät kesät Suomessa kun täällä on "liian kuumaa" (mitä se sellainen on? =) ) ja talvet täällä lämpimässä. Joku arvioi suomalaisia olevan 30 000, mutta alueesta ei ollut varmuutta.

I also went to open an account to local Wells Fargo - bank. There works a Finnish lady Sinikka, who is taking care of many Finns bank-accounts. No one seems to know how many Finns are living in here, probably because many spend their summers at Finland when here is "too hot" (what is that? =) ) and come here for the winter time. Somebody evaluated the amount to be around 30 000.

Keskiviikkona tai torstaina kävin ensimmäisen kerran lähimmässä kaupassa, Dollar Generalissa, joka ulkoapäin näytti suhteellisen pieneltä kaupalta. Kuulin, että kauppa myy halvalla tuotteita, mutta ruokaa ei myynnissä ole kovinkaan paljoa. Mutta huh kun pääsin sisälle, valikoimat on niin uskomattoman laajat täällä! Aikaa kaupan läpikäymiseen meni varmaankin pari tuntia, koska oli vain pakko ihmetellä kaikkia niitä tuotteita joita ei ole koskaan Suomessa nähnyt, ja sitä vaihtoehtojen määrää! Kamera ei tosin ollut tuolloin mukanani, mutta kävin tänään hieman kuvailemassa saadakseni teille kuvia täältä.

On Wednesday or Thursday I went first time to my closest store, Dollar General, which did not look that big from the outside. I had heard that the store sells products cheap, but they do not sell many food products. But huh when I went in there! The assortment is so huge around here. I probably spent around two hours in the shop, because I couldn't stop wondering about all the product we don't have in Finland, and the amount of choices! I didn't have camera with then, but I went to took some photos for you today.

Pelkästään kaupan juomavalikoima oli valtava. Hinnat ovat täällä halvemmat kuin Suomessa, erityisesti tässä kaupassa, mutta myös muissa. Ruokavalmisteiden raaka-aineluettelot ovat hieman hämääviä, mietin aluksi että kylläpäs ne laittavat täällä paljon kaikkea lisäaineita ruokiin, kunnes ymmärsin että eivät tietystikään käytä E-koodeja, joten raaka-ainelista näyttää pidemmältä kaikki ainekset auki kirjoitettuina.

Even the drink-selection in the shop was huge. The prices are cheaper in here than in Finland, I kind of would have liked to know a bit more about the price difference before I came here, which is why I think I'll get back to that more later also, in case some of you guys are traveling here at any near time. Naturally the prices were even more cheap in this shop, since it's the kind of shop that sells product cheap. The ingredients-lists are a bit confusing, which is why I was first thinking that oh no how much they put additives to food, until I realized that of course they do not have e-codes here, which makes the lists look much longer by all the ingredients written by letters.

Myös kosmetiikka on paljon halvempaa kuin Suomessa. Reseptittömät lääkkeet saa myös tavallisista kaupoista. Mietin ennen matkaa rakennekynsien laittovälineiden mukaanottoa, mutta hienoa etten ottanut niitä mukaani, koska löysin kaupasta kuudella dollarilla akryylikynsipakkauksen.

Also cosmetics are much cheaper than in Finland. You can buy receipt-free medicine from regular grocery stores. I was thinking to take with my gel-nail products with to Florida to do my nails sometimes, but now I found it was really great I didn't start to drag them with here, especially when I found acrylic-nail package with only six dollars.

Aiemmin viikolla mukaani lähti kaupasta muun muassa pari litrainen jäätelöpakkaus. En olisi koskaan uskonut sanovani tätä jäätelöstä, mutta se ei ollut hyvää. Täällä monet herkut vaikuttavat näyttävän hyviltä, mutta aina maku ei ole niin hyvä. 

Earlier this week I bought almost two liters ice cream package from the shop. I would have never thought I would say this of an ice cream, but it was not good! It seems that also here many treats look delicious from outside, but the taste is not necessarily so good.

Pettymystä tähän jäätelöön oli pakko paikkaille Ben&Jerrysillä =)

Näyttääkö kenenkään muun mielestä nämä karkit ihan korvatulpilta?

Tästä postauksesta ei ollut tarkoitus tulla kauppa-postausta, mutta näköjään se siihen ajautui kuitenkin =) Laitan myöhemmin lisää kuvia kaupungista ja asunnostani. Kävin myös shoppailemassa vuokranatajani kanssa Marshallsissa tänään, mutta siitä toisen kerran, koska muuten tästä postauksesta tulee aivan liian pitkä. Sen jälkeen kävin vielä pyörähtämässä uima-altaalla pihalla, täällä on ollut tosi lämmin päivä.

This post was not supposed to be a shop-post, but I see it ended up to be one anyways =) I shall post some more photos of the town and my apartment later. I also went to shop at the Marshalls with my land lord today, but that I shall tell more about later, because otherwise this post will come way too long. After that I went to relax at the pool for a while, it has been so warm day today.

Uusi lemmikkini joka oli hiippaillut salaa asuntooni - my new pet the curlytale

Ai niin, täytyy myöntää että pieni kiljahdus pääsi kun havaitsin kuvassa olevan tyypin enimmäistä kertaa yöpöydälläni. Varmaan luulette että nyt se on ottanut lemmikin kun Face Bookissa niin suunnitteli, mutta tuo tapaus on kyllä tullut tänne ihan itse. Eikä siinä mitään, eiväthän nuo mitään tee (paitsi saattavat kuulemma purra), kunhan niitä ei super paljoa ala vaellella täällä. Ja on ne söpöjäkin. Nuita pikkuisia gekkoja kutsutaan täällä nimellä curlytale, johtuen niiden hännästä joka on kiharalla =) Mutta hieman enemmän huolettaa että jos tuon kokoinen gekko pääsee tänne itse, niin mitenkäs sitten torakat... =S Mutta onneksi nyt tuo tyyppi saapui syömään kaikki ötökät =)

Oh by the way, I have to admit I screamed a bit the first time I noticed the curlytale at my apartment , after all, it was so small that it could have been anything... You probably might think I have taken one as a pet, since I've said there is so many in the yard and that they are quite cute, but this one had arrived by itself. And that's okay, after all they do eat bugs, as long as it doesn't come the whole army of them here. However, I am a bit worried that if that size of animal is getting inside here, how is it with cockroaches.. =S But now I do have that pet eating them! =)
